The upcoming 2021 Jeep Compass will go on sale later this year and it will introduce small changes. That includes upgrades of the styling and additional high-tech updates. However, big news could be a hybrid powertrain, but this is not official yet. Compass is another Jeep’s SUV that comes with good off-road capability. It looks sharp and it provides more than solid performances.
The current generation has been introduced in 2017 and since then, Jeep is introducing mid-cycle refreshments. The 2021 Compass is also in the line of mid-cycle updates so don’t expect anything significant to happen. Still, a rumored hybrid powertrain is what the fans are hoping for.
2021 Compass Gets Minor Exterior Refreshments
Visually, the 2021 Jeep Compass will get small exterior refinements. This SUV looks similar to the larger Jeep Grand Cherokee model. The new model will continue with the same appearance but small refinements are about to happen. The changes are really minimal and Compass will wear the same design language as before. For instance, a seven-slot grille and angular headlights will largely remain.
The side profile offers trapezoidal fender flares and nice sharp lines. The roof paint job is what makes Compass cool. If you want something wilder, an off-road version called Trailhawk is available. It offers a more rugged appearance and it adds more equipment. The range-topping Limited model is more luxurious and it comes with a premium appearance, unique colors and much more.
New High-Tech Features
The forthcoming 2021 Jeep Compass looks very nice on the inside. The next model won’t be the next-gen Compass so you should expect minor interior updates. The cabin won’t even feature the all-new Uconnect infotainment system, which is interesting. High-tech features are very responsive and easy to use. The cabin is both modern and practical at the same time. The base trim level offers a 7-inch touchscreen as standard.
Higher-grade trim levels will use a larger 8.4-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also available as standard. What will the Compass offer for 2021? New driver-assistance aids that should be optional on the entry-level models. That includes active cruise control, active parking assist and similar systems. The cabin design is unchanged for 2021 and if you want more luxury, a Limited trim level is the best you can get.
Engine Specs and Hybrid Rumors
No changes under the bonnet as the 2021 Jeep Compass continues to roll on its 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. This powertrain is available in the US and it provides 180 hp. Moreover, its torque has been rated at 175 lb-ft. The customers can choose between a 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic transmission. Compass comes with an optional all-wheel-drive system that is standard on the Trailhawk and Limited trim levels. Trailhawk also offers raised suspension, off-road tires, and the Selec-Terrain system.
The highlight of the 2021 Compass could be a plug-in hybrid variant. The rumors are suggesting a 1.3-liter turbo-four engine in a combination with electric motors. The motors/generators will power the rear wheels and this output will produce around 240 horsepower. The same speculations are predicting an all-electric range of 31 miles. However, this is just a rumor and nothing is official yet.
