Is Hummer coming back in 2018?

We all know that the demand for sport utility vehicles is growing constantly, and many car manufacturers such as Land Rover and Jeep are prospering of the SUV boom on the global market. So, many would say that now it just might be the perfect time for the legendary Hummer to reenter and join the world’s market once again. Production of the Hummer in short

The original Hummer dates since 1992 when it has entered the market as the civilian version of the military Humvee vehicle.  Of course, this model was adapted to the needs of the everyday consumers. This means that is has gotten improved, more comfortable cabin, more equipment and better finishes. This version has been sold under the name “Hummer H1”. After that, the Company released two more models called Hummer H2 and Hummer H3-the smallest version of all.  Then in 2008, the car maker presented its H4 version or as to say the Hummer HX Concept.

Years after, after the GM’S bankruptcy back in 2009, the Company has officially confirmed that the production of the Hummer lineup would be totally discontinued. However, there have been rumors about the Chinese manufacturer Tengzhong who has announced that he would continue with the production of the Hummer brand. But, after that he decided to draw off the offer. So, in 2010 General Motors started the shutting down of this legendary SUV lineup.

Characteristics of the Hummer lineup

The H1 model represented the large truck/SUV which had several types of engines under the hood. It was available with a 6.2-liter, 5.7-liter and 6.5-liter V-8 engines. The H2 appeared as the second vehicle in the lineup and represented full-size SUV but a bit smaller in comparison to H1 model. This version was powered with a 6.0-liter and 6.2-liter V8 units. The third was the H3, the smallest version, which is classified as the mid-size SUV/pickup truck. This one had a choice of 3.5-liter I5, 3.7-liter I5 and a 5.3-liter V-8 powertrains.

However, the Hummer lineup has been criticized because of several reasons. Firstly, all these models are much larger than the standard SUVs which makes them a bit difficult to park and unsafe for every day drive. Furthermore, they showed very poor fuel efficiency and insufficiency of standard safety features which are in today’s vehicles almost required.

Is Hummer coming back in 2018?

So, here we are to the final question. Lately, we could hear the rumors about the comeback of the famous Hammer which would be a mid-size off-roader SUV and could compete against the Jeep Wrangler. This model could be the next H4 which would be based on the Hummer HX Concept. However, these speculations are just the wish of the fans since the GMC hasn’t confirmed anything so far. There aren’t any spy photos or any further information too. So we believe that this is just a rumor, at least for now.
